Sondog Trial Runs on Friday . . . For Friday!

At Sondog Agility on Friday, May 23 handlers and their four-legged partners teamed up for two very special runs. We offered an additional Hoopers run and an additional Tunnelers run at our trial, for a cost of $10 a run, with all proceeds donated to the Pepper Memorial Fund in memory of Friday, Liane Kramer’s beloved Sheltie (see more info below). Our judges, Alanna Leach and Blair Bloxham, generously donated their fees for these runs.

Friday’s Story

Friday (shown at right) was Liane Kramer’s best friend

and agility partner. They had trained with Sondog

since we began. Unfortunately, Friday was diagnosed

with lymphoma in November 2007. After he staged

a truly awe-inspiring battle against cancer, we said

goodbye to Friday on May 1, 2008. He was only seven.

Friday was an amazing, beautiful dog. He was always

happy and ready to play with Liane. They embodied the

true meaning of teamwork both on and off the field.

They showed us all that agility isn’t about the Qs or

placements or beating the next guy but about stepping

to the start line with your best friend and sharing that

true connection. Liane and Friday would always leave

the agility field with big smiles on their faces. Sondog

has lost a very special member of our team

and we will miss him so very much.

“A heart of Gold stopped beating,

two shining eyes at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove,

He only takes the best.”

What is the Pepper Memorial Fund?

In 2000 Lin and Greg Battaglia of Reno, Nev., lost their Sheltie, Pepper, to lymphoma, the number one cancer in dogs. Both Lin and Greg are avid NADAC exhibitors. As well, Greg is a NADAC judge, recently visiting Canada to judge the PACE NADAC trial in Edmonton at the end of April.

The same year Pepper died, Lin and Greg established the Pepper Memorial Classic, a NADAC agility trial held in remembrance of Pepper and his love of competition. Over the past seven years, this event has raised over $70,000 for the Morris Animal Foundation. This year’s event will be held July 26-27 in Carson City, Nevada.
